It's been dismissed as a "lollipop" by a section of the BJP, but the proposed Ramayana Museum has raised enough hackles in poll-bound UP for the SP government to announce a Ramleela Park. Culture and tourism minister Mahesh Sharma went on a recce to Ayodhya last week to identify the museum site. "Our vision is to showcase the life and teachings of Lord Ram in an interactive museum with modern technologies like laser show, virtual storytelling and electronic walls,'' he says. It's part of theRamayana circuit, stretching from Ayodhya in UP to Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu.

Among the museum's structure will be 10 galleries, depicting a phase (kand) of Lord Ram's life:
Some facts:
* Funds allotted for Ramayana circuit: Rs 154 crore
* Funds for the museum: Rs 85 crore
* Amount to be spent in Ayodhya in two phases: Rs 181 crore. Of this, 126cr is for building bio-toilets,
  changing rooms, illumination of ghats and multi-level parking

Ramayana circuit will have 15 destinations spread across 9 states. Other features include:
 * Laser audio-visual show depicting teachings from the Ramayana 
 * Text of scriptures displayed on interactive screens 
 * Water screen projection of the story 
 * Tourist facilitation centre with cafe, and an information centre with wifi
