A 40-member personnel team of the USS Anchorage led by the ship’s Chaplin Lieutenant David Tambur had a day out at the centralised kitchen run by Akshaya Patra Foundation, here on Monday.

USS Anchorage (LPD-23), a San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock, is on a port visit to Visakhapatnam, and the team participated in the day-to-day activity at the centralised kitchen.

Mid-day meal

The Akshaya Patra Foundation has been cooking and supplying meals to schools under the mid-day meal programme and to the Anna Canteens.

The personnel from the U.S. ship participated in the various activities such as grading vegetables, chopping them, cooking and loading the cooked food on to vehicles for despatch.

U.S.A. Consulate General Catherine also paid a visit to the centralised kitchen and appreciated the efforts by the Akshaya Patra Foundation and met foundation president Niskinchana Bhakta Dasa.
