Sri Chanchalapathi Dasa, Senior Vice President of ISKCON Bangalore delivered a talk on ‘Soul’s Secret Journey’  to a group of Senior Chartered Accountants at the ICAI Conclave (Institute of Chartered Accountants of India) in Mangaluru. Speaking on the significance of Bhagavad-gita, he encouraged everyone to read it and understand its teachings.

He invoked Lord Krishna’s words: “Always think of Me, and fill your mind with Me, become My devotee, worship Me, offer your respects unto Me. If you do these things you’ll certainly come to Me, I promise you.”

Sri Chanchalapathi Dasa quoted Srila Prabhupada’s example as to how it is in one’s natural perfection to love Krishna as it is already there in one’s heart. A toddler has begun to stand, and then – as mothers and fathers – we hold the child’s hand and help him to walk. When you let go of his hand he will fall down, but then in a few days, in a few weeks, a few months he’ll start walking. That walking ability was already there in the child. Just a little bit of support, and the child begins to walk!

Our natural ability to walk was already there – it was not introduced from outside.  With just a little practice, the ability became manifest. It was hidden because the child was too small and his legs didn’t have the strength. So it was not appropriate for that ability to manifest – now, the child has grown-up. Now you hold his hand and he’ll start walking.

The child has no ability to fly – you can make him flap his hands but he will never fly because that ability does not exist in a child. Similarly the ability to love Krishna is there in our heart – it is not to be introduced from outside.

Just like a mother helps the child, it is not to be acquired from outside. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is referring to one verse in Srimad Bhagavatam: Prahlada says in the Bhagavatam, “First step of developing love of Krishna is hearing what the Lord has presented and hearing what the Acharyas have explained to help us understand the Lord’s message better.”

But it is hidden and one has become forgetful of one’s relationship with Krishna. Lord Krishna says that the knowledge about the Gita is most confidential and one should receive this knowledge in the right frame of mind. Sri Chanchalapathi Dasa addressed these themes in his talk.

CA Ranganath Shenoy, who is part of the ICAI fraternity in Mangaluru said, “The talk was very relevant and the way Swamiji presented was very inspiring. We need to have such talks on a regular basis in order to ensure our progress on the spiritual track which significantly contributes to wholesome development of one’s personality. We can have such talks regularly in our monthly meeting.”

ICAI is the second largest professional Accounting and Finance body in the world in terms of membership, after the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. It is the only licensing and regulating body of the financial audit and accountancy profession in India. The talk was held at the BMS Hotel auditorium and was attended by 585 chartered accountants.
