BENGALURU, November 1, 2018: ISKCON Bangalore organized Sri Vishnu Sahasranama Akhanda Parayana to coincide with the Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations for the welfare of the society.
Sri Vishnu Sahasranama comprises one thousand names of Lord Vishnu. This is a familiar prayer from the epic Mahabharata, chanted by the devotees of the Lord and each of the thousand holy names corresponds to His various incarnations, qualities, pastimes, etc.
Reciting the holy names of the Lord is recommended in the scriptures as the only process of spiritual practice in the Kali-yuga for relief from all miseries and liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
The recital of Vishnu Sahasranama at the temple was held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. without a break.
The event was graced by eminent personalities who included Dr. Aralumallige Parthasarathy, Founder, Global Vishnu Sahasranama Federation; Captain Mani, President, Global Vishnu Sahasranama Federation; Sri Puttannaji, Founder, Sri Saipadananda Satsanga and His Grace Sridhama Krishna Dasa, Chief, Resource Mobilization, ISKCON Bangalore.
Dr. Parthasarathy lauded Srila Prabhupada, the Founder-Acharya of ISKCON for showing the world the power of holy names. Speaking about the importance of Vishnu Sahasranama he said, “If chanted properly, it creates 72,000 vibrations which purify 72,000 veins and nerves in our body, thereby purifying our body, mind and thoughts.”
His Grace Sridhama Krishna Dasa quoted a verse from the scriptures saying, “Right from the age of five, we should cultivate Bhagavata dharma which includes nava vidha bhakti. If we chant the holy names with faith, we get the spiritual effect just like when we take medicine with faith as per doctor’s prescription our sickness goes away.”
Several well-known personalities were felicitated on this occasion for their efforts in propagating Vishnu Sahasranama.
About 1100 members from over 30 Bhajana Mandalis recited Sri Vishnu Sahasranama 25 times during the eight-hour session.
