Krishnagiri: Breakfast programme was launched for the government school students in Thaly and Shoolagiri blocks in the district on Monday. The initiative is expected to benefit 7,800 students of 70 schools in these blocks
District collector S Prabhakar inaugurated the programme, which is a joint initiative of Ashok Leyland and the Akshaya Patra Foundation, at the Samanapalli government higher secondary school in Shoolagiri.
Lauding the initiative, the collector said the government was doing its best to curb the number of school dropouts. “The government is encouraging students in many ways to continue their education to empower them. The breakfast initiative will surely play a role in this.”
N V Balachandar, president-HR communications and CSR, Ashok Leyland, said the programme was implemented in 70 schools in Thally and Shoolagiri blocks and it would benefit 7,800 students. “The programme will be extended to the government schools we adopted soon.”
Shridhar Venkat, CEO, the Akshaya Patra Foundation, said they were committed to implementing the breakfast programme by ensuring the highest standards of food safety and hygiene.
