Sri Kirti Krishna Dasa receiving a prize from His Grace Madhu Pandit Dasa
BENGALURU, January 31, 2019: ISKCON Bangalore’s annual book distribution marathon which commenced on December 2, 2018 came to a close with the prize distribution ceremony on January 27, 2019.
The book distribution marathon is held every year by the temple on the auspicious occasion of Gita Jayanti in order to extensively distribute Srila Prabhupada’s books which include Bhagavad-gita As It Is, Srimad-Bhagavatam and many other books presenting the science of Krishna Consciousness.
Srila Prabhupada, the Founder-Acharya of ISKCON, considered the teachings of Bhagavad-gita and other Vedic literature to be the absolute need of the present society. He was particularly concerned that his books should be published and distributed profusely to make the teachings available to the entire world. He would be greatly pleased upon hearing the reports of large-scale distribution of books by his disciples and would encourage them to expand it further.
ISKCON centres worldwide organize book distribution marathons every year in furtherance of Srila Prabhupada’s mission to establish Krishna consciousness all over the world.
Srila Prabhupada wrote in one of his letters to his disciples:
“These books are so potent that anyone who reads them is sure to become Krishna Conscious. So it is a very valuable service to distribute our books.”
This year 58 teams with 429 devotee volunteers participated in the marathon held by ISKCON Bangalore. They distributed 16,963 copies of Bhagavad-gita As-It-Is, 45 sets of Srimad-Bhagavatam, nine sets of Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita and 7,529 other books of Srila Prabhupada in different languages.
Apart from these marathon teams, book counters in the temple, Brihat Mridanga team with book distribution vehicles and temple devotees were also engaged in the marathon event. Books were also distributed through external vendors and online sales.
Altogether, 99,528 books of Srila Prabhupada (includes 42,819 Bhagavad-gita As It Is and 173 sets of Srimad-Bhagavatam/ Sri Chaitanya-Charitamrita), were distributed during the seven weeks of the marathon period.
The prize distribution ceremony was held at the Multi-Vision Theatre on the temple premises. His Grace Madhu Pandit Dasa, President, ISKCON Bangalore gave away the prizes to the top participants in the Book Marathon under different categories. His Grace Vasudev Keshav Dasa, Vice President, coordinated the ceremony.
His Grace Madhu Pandit Dasa congratulated all the marathon participants for their hard work in distributing books. He called upon them to continue distributing books throughout the year without limiting themselves just to the marathon period. He said, “Even if it is an opportunity to sell one book, don’t miss it. It is better to sell at least five books in a year than no books at all. Make your own target and serve Srila Prabhupada by distributing his books. It will please Srila Prabhupada.”
