Hyderabad, December 23, 2017: The Hare Krishna Movement, Hyderabad (HKM Hyd) celebrated its Annual Heritage & Cultural Day Celebrations at Ravindra Bharathi today. SUMEDHASAH (Intelligence through Culture) is the cultural wing of HKM whose objective is to promote cultivation of knowledge through culture. This festival of HKM Hyd called the Heritage Fest is a cultural extravaganza to celebrate India’s vibrant culture and rich tradition and also provide a platform to promote our Vedic knowledge & ethical values. HKM Hyd has been conducting Heritage Fest Cultural competitions across the twin cities since many years and is labeled as a festival of “enlightenment, creativity, entertainment & education”. The Heritage Fest is perhaps the only one of its kind both in the spectrum of events it covers and the massive participation of school children. This year the fest witnessed a huge participation of over 10,000 students spread across 800 schools of Hyderabad in various contests over a period of a few months undergoing qualifying, quarter finals, semi finals & final rounds.
Today’s celebrations was graced by Chief Guest, Sri Swamy Goud – Hon’ble Chairman of Telangana Legislative Council, Special Guests, Sri Ravindranath Gupta – Trustee Arya Vysya Hostel and presided by Sri Satya Gaura Chandra Dasa, M.Tech ( IIT–Madras) – President of Hare Krishna Movement & Akshaya Patra Foundation, Telangana & AP.
The program began with the lighting of a lamp by the dignitaries and as part of the Annual Day celebrations there were performances in traditional dance, drama, classical music, Gita sloka chanting, painting, storytelling, elocution, rangoli, etc., by the prize winners. Later, all the students who excelled in various activities were awarded first, second, third, runner up, and consolation prizes by the Chief Guest and other dignitaries. Trophies & shields were awarded for the best performing schools as a token of encouragement. The Champions Trophy was won by Obul Reddy School for overall participation and team spirit.
Speaking on the occasion, Sri Swami Goud said, "Hare Krishna Movement is doing a commendable job of imparting culture, values, traditions and customs along with knowledge for the children and thereby instilling self confidence, leadership skills, nationalism, creativity & humanity in the young minds. I congratulate the winners and thank Hare Krishna Movement President Sri Satya Gaura Chandra Dasa Swamiji for encouraging these values and assure of all help from the Telangana Govt for advancing these noble virtues.”
Addressing the audience, Sri Satya Gaura Chandra Dasa said that,
"Around 10,000 students participated in the Fest which was conducted in more than 800 schools of Telangana and by which the children learn to be self-confident, develop leadership qualities and work together. The Heritage Fest is not only a convergence of cultural contests but also a cherished event which endeavors to bridge the cultural divide in this era of tech-frenzy, increasing juvenile delinquency and stressed lifestyle of kids.”The event was well attended by school managements, parents and children. The winners of the Fest showcased their talents and skills during the program and entertained the audience at Ravindra Bharathi. It was a visual treat to witness enthusiastic students participate in the cultural carnival of contests displaying their creativity and talent.
Out of the 10,000 participants, 785 students reached Semifinals, of whom 142 students participated in the Finals and received prizes during the event. First, Second and Third prize winners of each event received Rs.3,000, Rs.2,000 and Rs.1,000 respectively while others received consolation certificates and rewards for runners-up. The Rolling Trophy was given to the school from which the maximum number of students participated in the program. School teachers who trained the best students also received Appreciation certificates. Seeing the overwhelming response to the Heritage Fest , HKM is planning to extend this event to the entire state by next year. A brief about activities of Hare Krishna Movement, Hyderabad:
AKSHAYA PATRA is the world’s largest mid-day meal program which is feeding over 16.6 lakh children in 12 states across the country in partnership with state & central governments. Currently we feed 1.5 lakh children every single day across 5 districts of Telangana.
BHOJANAMRITA is a project initiated by the Hare Krishna Movement Charitable Foundation (Hyderabad) to feed 5,000 underprivileged (inpatient) attendants free lunch on a daily basis in Govt & Trust hospitals.
Annapoorna (Rs. 5 /- Meal Program): In partnership with GHMC we have started the subsidized food distribution program for the urban poor. The project is currently feeding 50,000 people across 150 centers in the GHMC limits.
Saddimoota: Saddimoota is a program in which a meal is provided to about 2,500 farmers & hamalis at four market yards every day.
