ISKCON Bangalore conducted a Kirtan Mela (congregational chanting of the Lord’s names and singing various devotional songs) on December 24 and 25, 2017. It is one of the programmes being conducted at the temple on a regular basis to propagate the message of Harinam sankirtana, the yuga-dharma for the present age of Kali.
The event was inaugurated by lighting a lamp by the Temple President His Grace Madhu Pandit Dasa. Speaking on the occasion, he said that, “Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu instructed that one should chant the holy names of the Lord loudly so that all the living entities who hear the holy name can benefit from the causeless mercy of the Hari-nama. The Lord has incarnated in this yuga as Krishna-nama. Hearing the Hare Krishna maha-mantra is like embracing the sound. Embracing the sound Hare Krishna means embracing the Lord with our ears and the mind and heart. Chanting the Hare Krishna mantra loudly in sankirtana is the way to distribute Krishna’s mercy to all living entities. This is the yuga-dharma.”
He went on to say that, “The whole family should sit together and chant the Hare Krishna maha-mantra as a prayer to Lord Krishna. It is a very powerful vibration that purifies the entire home. It lights up the mind and consciousness of every house member. Krishna’s blessings will be invoked in the entire family. This is the process of sankirtana. The greatest gift that we can give to humanity is to distribute the holy name.”
The Kirtan Mela was held in the main temple hall throughout the day and a large number of devotees participated. The whole atmosphere was surcharged with the spiritual vibrations of the holy names and proved to be a spiritually uplifting experience for devotees and temple visitors alike.
