BANGALORE, November 13, 2018: ISKCON Bangalore celebrated Govardhana puja on November 8, 2018 in commemoration of Lord Krishna’s Govardhana lila.

Their Lordships Sri Sri Radha Krishnachandra gave darshan in Radha Giridhari alankara on this day. The worship of cows and a huge cake-replica of the Govardhana Hill were the main events of the evening.

The Govardhana Hill weighing 750 kg was made of pure vegetarian cake enriched with tutti frutti, dry fruits, cherries and decorated with coconut cake cookies (10 kg), rose walnut cookies (10 kg) and saffron almond cookies (5 kg). In addition, there were 56 types of sweets and savouries (chappan bhog) making the total offering above 1000 kg.

The celebrations included a video show on the Govardhana lila from the Little Krishna animation series, Govardhana parikrama, deepotsava, shayana pallakki, fireworks display and distribution of Govardhana cake prasadam.

AHMEDABAD, November 12, 2018: Govardhan Puja was celebrated on 8th November, 2018 at Hare Krishna Movement, Ahmedabad with great splendor. The festival commemorates the lifting of the Govardhan Hill by Lord Krishna for saving the residents of Vrindavan from Indra’s wrath. A replica of Govardhan Hill was prepared with pure vegetarian cake by the devotees. Annakuta comprising of over 108 varieties of food items was offered to Giri Govardhan.

As a part of the celebrations, Sri Sri Radha Madhav were offered Ratha Yatra seva on the Swarna Ratha (golden chariot). It was followed by ‘gau puja’ and then by Govardhan arati along with Govardhan-ashtakam song. Deepotsava was also celebrated by offering ghee lamps to Lord Krishna by thousands of devotees.

The festival concluded with distribution of annakuta maha-prasadam to all participants. Shri Chaitanya Shambhu Maharaj, Ex Vice Chairman, Gau Seva and Gau Vikas Board was the guest of honor at the festival.

ISKCON Temple at Jayanagar, Mysuru, celebrated Govardhana Puja festival on Thursday (Nov. 8) at its temple premises. The festival started at 6 pm with Tulasi Puja followed by Go Puja (worship of the cows), Govardhana Puja (worship of Govardhana Hill) and Deepotsava.  

Devotees were spell-bound by looking at the magnificent Govardhana Hill made with 200 kgs of delicious cake. Various kinds of food items including rice preparations, sweets and savories were also prepared and offered to Lord Krishna on the auspicious day.  Hundreds of devotees thronged the temple and received the blessings of the Lord.

Jai Chaitanya Dasa, President of ISKCON, Mysore chapter, who graced the occasion, said that this festival was celebrated in commemoration of the fascinating pastime of Lord Krishna’s lifting the Govardhana Hill when angry Indra sent torrents of rain accompanied by showers of ice blocks and high wind to disturb the residents of Vrindavana. Lord Krishna immediately took compassion upon the residents of Vrindavana and protected them by picking up the Govardhana Hill, just as a child picks up a mushroom.

HYDERABAD, November 12, 2018: Govardhan Puja & Annakutotsava was celebrated on 8th November, 2018 at Hare Krishna Golden Temple @ Banjara Hills.

The highlight of the event was a 600 kg replica of Govardhana Hill (Annakuta) made of various food items like Anna, Halwa, pure vegetarian cake, etc. The Hill was marked with various kundas (ponds) – Shyama Kunda, Radha Kunda and other important pilgrimage sites on the Govardhana Parikrama marga.

The program began with “Go-Puja” (offering Krishna prasadam to cows and calves) followed by darshan of the well decorated Govardhana Hill which was exquisitely carved out by devotees to resemble the actual Govardhana Hill. This was followed by a “Pravachan” depicting the importance of Govardhana Lila. The devotees then witnessed a spectacular Govardhana Arati and all were given an opportunity to offer ghee lamps to the Lord and do “Parikrama” of the Hill.

A video animation of the pastime of Lord Sri Krishna lifting Govardhana Hill enthralled the devotees and then they were served with sumptuous cake and Annakuta Prasadam.
