Govardhan Puja was celebrated on October 20, 2017 at Hare Krishna Movement (HKM), Ahmedabad with great grandeur. The festival commemorates the lifting of Govardhan Hill by Lord Krishna for saving the residents of Vrindavan from Indra’s wrath. A replica of Govardhan Hill was prepared by devotees with 1000 kg of pure vegetarian cake. Annakuta comprising of 108 varieties of food items was offered to Giri Govardhan.
The festival began with Gau Puja, the worship of mother cow. It was followed by Govardhan Arati to the accompaniment of Govardhanashtakam song. Later, a movie depicting the Govardhan-lila by Lord Krishna was played. This was followed by Deepotsava wherein ghee lamps were offered to Lord Krishna by thousands of devotees present. The festival concluded with distribution of Annakuta maha-prasadam to everyone.
