KAKINADA, February 03, 2019: The government of Andhra Pradesh recently allocated two acres of endowments land at Vakalapudi Village, Kakinada Rural Mandal to construct a centralized kitchen for serving the needy. Kakinada Sea Port Ltd has generously come forward to support this great cause and has donated Rs 1.56 crores towards construction of the first phase under CSR activity. The first phase is sponsored by Cocanada Annadana Samajam, Kakinada, which has given two acres of land on lease.
On this occasion, His Grace Satya Gaura Chandra dasa, President, Akshaya Patra Foundation, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, expressing his gratitude to Kakinada Sea Port said, “We are empowered by community participation and this is a remarkable example of what we can do when we all join hands for a common cause. It has always been our endeavour to reach out to more children while ensuring sustainability for our kitchens. Food security is one of the major concerns of our country and I am glad we are able to come together to address this. It is important that we as conscious individuals do whatever is necessary for the children, the community and our society.”
His Grace Niskinchana Bhaktha Dasa, President, Akshaya Patra Foundation, Visakhapatnam and Kakinada, said, “The Akshaya Patra Foundation is serving 15,000 children in 72 schools in Kakinada. We are extremely thankful to Kakinada Sea Port’s CSR department and Cocanada Annadana Samajam Endowment Department, Govt of Andhra Pradesh. The first phase of the kitchen which will be operational by July 2019, is expected to help the foundation to serve more midday meals.”
Dignitaries present at the ceremony expressed happiness at being part of such an initiative addressing the national issue of eradicating class room hunger. They congratulated the Foundation for successfully completing 18 years of implementing the school lunch programme.
Presently the centralized kitchen set up at Ramaraopet prepares food for 15,000 beneficiaries daily. Food is then packed in stainless steel containers and placed in multi storied customized heat insulated food distribution vehicles. These vehicles travel up to 20 km and distribute food in Kakinada’s 72 Municipal schools. Apart from this food is served to 1000 attendants of patients at the government general hospital. Food preparation begins at 5 am every morning and by 10 am it is ready to be dispatched.
