Visakhapatnam, Jan. 8, 2018: Bhumi Pooja was performed for the construction of Akshaya Patra’s centralised kitchen at Gambhiram, Anandhapuram Mandal this morning.  As part of its CSR activity, Divis Laboratories has contributed Rs 7.5 crores towards construction of this kitchen.

One acre of land was donated on lease for this by Free Polio Surgical and Research Foundation.

Some of the features of the kitchen are:
•    Steam generation for cooking from boilers, capable of producing 2 tons of steam per hour
•    Rice cleaning machine
•    The kitchen will adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices and use technology and innovation.
•    Food Testing Laboratory 
•    Up to 5,000 litres of water generated per hour for cooking using Reverse Osmosis
•    High capacity machine for vegetable cutting
•    Raw material stores 
•    Capable of cooking 10,000 meals per hour 
•    Uses about 4,000 kg of rice, 1500 kg of pulses and 3,000 kg of vegetables every day

On this occasion His Grace Satya Gaura Chandra dasa, President of Akshaya Patra Foundation Andhra Pradesh and Telangana while expressing his gratitude to Divis Laboratories said, “We are empowered by community participation and this is a remarkable example of what we can do when we all join hands for a common cause. It has always been our endeavour to reach out to more children while ensuring sustainability for our kitchens. Food security is one of the major concerns of our country and I am glad that we are able to come together to address this issue. It is important that we as conscious individuals do whatever is necessary for the children, the community and our society.”

His Grace Niskinchana Bhakta dasa, President, Akshaya Patra Foundation, Visakhapatnam, said that, “Akshaya Patra is serving midday meals to 23,500 children in 92 schools in Visakhapatnam every day. We are extremely thankful to Divis Laboratories.” He said that the kitchen is expected to be operational by September 2018.

Dignitaries present at the ceremony expressed happiness at being part of such an initiative addressing the national issue of eradicating class room hunger. They congratulated Akshaya Patra for successfully completing 17 years of implementing the school lunch programme and also appreciated Divis Laboratories for their CSR initiative.
