Devotees to be taken to ghats from parking areas by bus
East Godavari Collector H. Arun Kumar on Tuesday made it clear that pilgrims coming from various parts of the State or other States for Godavari Pushkarams could directly proceed to Rajahmundry city without any restrictions.
However, they should park their vehicles in respective slots allotted by police, and from there, they should travel by bus to the nearest ghat.
“Pilgrims need to walk just 500 metres to reach the ghats. Those who want to go to relatives or friends’ houses will be allowed up to the nearest parking place, from where the residents of Rajahmundry should take them in their own vehicles through the non-restricted zones,” the Collector said.
Mills to be closed
Addressing the media on Tuesday here, along with Pushkaram Special Officer K. Dhanunjaya Reddy and Municipal Commissioner J. Murali, he said the Endowments Department had made all arrangements for accommodating Peetadhipathis, Swamijis and Sadhus.
Replying to a question, the Collector said the AP Paper Mills has been asked to suspend operations for a fortnight to keep pollution low from July 10.
On Godavari river water levels, Mr. Arun Kumar said the Irrigation Department would ensure that the water level was maintained at four feet by continuously releasing water from Seelieru from July 10 till the end of Pushkarams.
Mr. Murali said the municipal authorities had arranged 69 points for drinking water supply along the ghats.
AP Paper Mill will be shutdown for 15 days
