"Because there is a law, there are many constraints. We have to go according to the law."

A separate Bench of the Supreme Court should be formed to fast-track the Ayodhya case, the Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas demanded at its meeting in Ayodhya on Tuesday, the first to be held in 12 years.

Ashok Singhal, patron of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, told presspersons after the meeting that the matter was sub judice, and indicated that the court verdict should be awaited. “Because there is a law, there are many constraints. We have to go according to the law,” he said.

He said the sants would take a decision to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on the temple issue.

The two-hour Nyas meeting at Maniram Chhavni, close to the disputed complex in Ayodhya, was attended by 22 Board members, including its president, Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, Mr. Singhal, Mahant Dharam Das and VHP secretary Champat Rai. Among the issues discussed was the problems faced by devotees in the “darshan” of “Ram Lalla”.

On the work on stone carving for the Ram temple at the Nyas workshop at Karsevakpuram, Mr. Singhal said that of the 2.5 lakh tonnes of stone required, one lakh tonne had been procured. The remaining would be collected from all over the country.

A common refrain at the meeting was that Muslims should give up their claims on Ayodhya, Mathura and Kashi.

Mr. Singhal, who made such an appeal to Muslims last week, said it would usher in permanent Hindu-Muslim harmony.

Last month, a Marg Darshak Mandal meeting of the VHP in Hardwar urged the government to clear “hurdles” in the way of temple construction.
