The Akshaya Patra Foundation won a special category award at the CII IQ (Confederation of Indian Industry Institute of Quality) – Tenth National Level Competition on Lean Six Sigma.

The objective of this competition was to share the best in class projects which have delivered transformational value to the organization, share best practices through successful case studies and provide a platform to professionals from the field to interact with six sigma practitioners.

The selection criteria for the competition included: deployment of six sigma culture in the organization, selection of the project based on organization objectives, problem understanding, problem definition and measure phase, data analysis done to pinpoint the causes/areas of improvement, selection and implementation of solutions, identification and implementation of monitoring and control methods for sustenance of results achieved, benefits achieved, presentation skills (time management, clarity in communication, knowledge of the subject, clarity in thought process) and handling question and answer session.

The competition was conducted in two phases – regional and national levels.

During the regional level competition held in Bengaluru on 1st August 2016, Akshaya Patra gave a presentation of its project implemented at its kitchen in Hubballi and was qualified for the national level.  The project was on optimization of raw material cost per meal. The other participants were Wipro Ltd, Ashok Leyland, Volvo India Pvt. Ltd, Dr. Reddy Laboratories, Infosys Ltd, Quest Global and Wipro Technologies.

The national level competition was held in Bengaluru on 1st and 2nd September 2016. Akshaya Patra participated in the service category. The other contenders being HDFC Bank Ltd, ICICI Bank Ltd, TCS, Infosys BPO Ltd, Max Life Insurance Company Ltd, Quest Global and Wipro Technologies. Akshaya Patra won a special category award from the jury under special recognition.

The team representing Akshaya Patra included Messrs. Kiran Ambekar, Shivanand Naik and Jayakumar V.
