Bengaluru, Feb. 5, 2018: ISKCON Bangalore conducted the initiation (diksha) ceremony at the temple on the appearance day of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura.
This was in accordance with the ritvik system of initiation set up by Srila Prabhupada as outlined in his Institutional Directive dated July 9, 1977. The devotees who are initiated as per the ritvik system would become the direct disciples of Srila Prabhupada.
Both first (Harinama) and second (Brahminical) initiations were conducted during the ceremony. Harinama initiation is the formal acceptance of the holy names of the Lord in the form of the Hare Krishna mantra from the spiritual master. During the Brahminical initiation the initiated devotee receives a sacred thread and Gayatri mantra from the spiritual master.
Six full-time devotees received Brahmana diksha and 31 devotees (11 full-time and 20 congregation devotees) received Harinama diksha from His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada.
His Grace Madhu Pandit Dasa, President, ISKCON Bangalore presided over the ceremony.
